Recap of the Iowa trip

I am preparing for my trip home to Florida and as I gaze out my hotel window I see some rain that I hope stays rain and doesn't turn into freezing rain. Not seeing Quentin on a daily basis is harder than I imagined so I don't want any further delays. This past weekend I taught Quentin how to moo. I am an excellent farm animal noise maker. I do a mean cow, horse, pig and chicken. I was asked to do a rooster this past weekend but cannot. I have been working on a turkey for years but I can't seem to perfect it. I have perfected the cow, though, and have started working on passing the talent, that is if making cow sounds can be considered a talent, to Quentin. When holding Quentin you can't do anything. He wants your full attention and the constant smiles, cooing and giggling he provides means you can't help yourself but give him your undivided attention. So as he stares into your face yearning to see what you are going to do next I start mooing. He likes it. He starts smiling and then tries to make the same kind of expression my mooing face makes with his own lips. Before long I mooooooooo and he then moooooooos back. It's a hit. He loves it and it's so funny, exciting, hilarious, interesting all in one that he can mimic you at such a young age and starts mooing after every time you do. This weekend we are going to start working on a chicken. Bawk, bawk, bawk, BAAAKAWK! If he can do that one I'll make sure I figure out how to upload the video.

The weekend was a smashing success. Quentin and Carrie traveled well together so that was great to hear. Carrie's family got to meet, hold, cuddle, take naps and get puked on with Quentin all weekend long. I don't believe anyone was blown out on but I did disappear on a 24 hour furlough with the boys on our ice fishing excursion. It was nearly 50 degrees, so it was a little scary to be on the river ice fishing but someone, who shall remain nameless to protect their identity, did manage to pull up a sizable northern somewhere in the vicinity of 36 inches. It easily took first prize. Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the elusive buzz fish well known in those Wisconsin parts. I did visit a Sawmill though and picked up some lite souvenirs sold in six pack format. My younger and only brother was gracious enough to traverse the great state of Wisconsin from east to west and then back again to spend some quality time fishing on Saturday. We caught up, I think, and both caught not a fish but something resembling the flu and a cold together. I woke up Sunday morning and the hotel thermostat was set at 55 degrees. Maybe that had something to do with it. My ritual upon checking into a hotel is immediately going up to my room, dropping off my bag and turning the thermostat as high as it will go, which is generally 85 degrees so when I return after my meetings it's Florida in there. Apparently, that's not how the Iowa folk roll, whom we were sharing a hotel room with. Gesundheit! Oh, excuse me that was me still freezing and sneezing!

While the boys were catching buzzes and colds the ladies were showering the babies, and there were several of them, with attention, food and gifts. Quentin received sets of "big boy" clothes for the upcoming spring and summer months including a Packers jogging suit and jersey. It's going to be sweet when he grows into them and starts throwing around the pig skin. He received some more books, which is great for his reading comprehension - he's been working on that in the evenings. He got some toys and some gift cards so Carrie can buy the much anticipated bedding for Quentin's crib. I think we may finally be moving him out of our room and into his. We still need to purchase a baby monitor but I think we will take care of that this weekend. He met his great grand parents this past weekend and took several naps with Grandpa Steve on the floor. Apparently we found Q's manny. He's retired, likes to nap and doesn't mind the occasional crying baby. Sounds like we found the perfect resume for our open (N)manny position. I hear that Grandpa Steve enjoys the Florida sunshine as well. I am very excited to step off the plane today and feel the 78 degree weather. 50 is nice but a far cry from 80.

When I get home tomorrow I will post the pictures from this past weekend. Carrie got together with her BFF's baby's mommas. I have seen the pictures and it won't be difficult to figure out which one is baby Quentin. He's the one without the baby-pattern baldness. It was nice for them all to get together. Stay tuned for the pics!
